Hunting for treasure
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  Luke 12:34           Did you ever go hunting for treasure or gold as a child, or dream of finding a lot of money?  It was fun to gather our shovels and go into the woods and hunt. Anything that had a glint of gold was exciting, and we just knew that we had found our fortune (only to find out it was iron pyrite or fools gold). However, it was fun to hunt and dream about what we would do with all the money that we found.
On this rainy morning, as I sit and think about God and God's word, I think about hunting and seeking treasure as a child.  Then it came to me…God's word is a treasure.   However, do we think of the Bible as a treasure chest filled with riches? There is everything that we need to know about God and our relationship to God found in God’s word.  No matter how many times I read a passage of scripture, I find some new revelation or thought that I had not seen before.
How often do you read God's word?  Is it something that you do each day or maybe it is just something that you do occasionally?   Do you know what is in the Bible and what is just a saying that we think comes from the Bible?  The only way that you can know or find the treasure that is there is to pick up the Bible (and maybe in some cases dust it off) and read.  During this Lenten season I encourage you to read God’s word more.  Develop a plan, join a Bible study, or discussion group and then go hunting for treasure.
Prayer:  Precious Lord, your word is holy and in it I can find all that I need for this journey that I call life.  Grow in me the desire to read and help me to find the time each day to read and study your word.    Amen
