The woods
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.  Philippines 4:6-7 (NIV)

One of my favorite places in the woods when I was a child was a spring  This small spring was located in a clearing in the woods not far from our house.  I remember walking with my father through the wood and reaching this special place. It was shady, and I remember the moss that was on the ground near the pool of water that was formed as the spring bubbled out of the hillside.  I loved this place because it was cool and a calm place to be.  I was enthralled by the water as it flowed out of the hillside and I would sit, watch, and listen as my dad and I talked with each other ( one of the few times that I would sit quietly).   I would like to go there today but unfortunately this place no longer exists except in my memory…it is beneath Lake Lanier.  However, I can still go there in my mind, and this becomes a place of peace and quiet…my oasis…when times become stressful but now it is my heavenly father that takes me there.   Once again I sit quietly, talk, and listen…and it is refreshing. I find that the stress drains away as I sit in God’s presence

Life has a way of coming at us and we do need to take a break or we may just find ourselves beginning to break under all of the stress.   Nothing can bring the peace and quiet to our souls that will last except God. Nothing is as comforting as sitting and talking with God and then listening to what God has to say. Lent can become the pathway which will lead you to the oasis that your soul desperately needs.  Have you found your oasis? The next time life starts to bet the best of you stop and retreat to your oasis so that you can be refreshed for the journey ahead.

Prayer:  Precious Lord, thank you for being my oasis when things start to get the best of me.  Amen
